While there are a few people out there who don’t love to indulge in a good bucket of popcorn (you had better be candy people though!), we know that there’s nothing that says movies more than the pleasing aromas of popcorn. But why just have plain, buttered popcorn when there are so many other options out there to enjoy? Take our advice and get a little creative the next time you decide to partake in popcorn. Your taste buds will be sure to thank you.
Candy Coated.
We have to start with one of our favorite combinations, candy and popcorn. You can make it in the theatre or in your own microwave, so it’s truly a win-win, and since it’s so easy, there should be no excuses not to try it for a sweet and salty mixture. One of our top candies we recommend using are milk duds. Not only are they good on their own, but when you toss them into a hot bowl of popcorn, they start to melt, getting chocolate caramel goodness all over the place. To sweeten the snack a bit more, add chocolate covered cookie dough pieces to the mix. Just be sure to add some napkins as well, as it can get a bit messy.
Care for Caramel?
A staple when it comes to flavored popcorn, it’s also one of our favorites to recreate at home. Now this one requires a little more time and dedication to get it to perfection, but it’s well worth the wait. We have a recommended recipe here for you to use, and if you want to add more pizzazz, toss in some chocolate chips and peanuts for an extra special treat.
Hot, Hot, Hot!
Adding Tapatio, Sriracha or your preferred hot sauce of choice to a fresh batch of popcorn is super easy, and also super flavorful. If you choose microwavable popcorn, just open the bag, shake in the hot sauce until you feel it’s an appropriate heat level, and then close the bag, shake, and enjoy. If you want to go the extra mile, we recommend adding in a squeeze of fresh lime juice and a sprinkling of season salt to seal the deal.
Pigging Out
We have two words for you. Bacon chocolate. Add in either fresh, diced bacon, or store bought bacon bits if that’s easier. Then throw in some chocolate chips. Need we say more?
Smooth and Creamy.
There’s nothing quite like peanut butter and chocolate, but what about peanut butter and Nutella? Now this combination is the messiest of them all, but boy is it worth what you’ll go through in napkins! Add spoonfuls of peanut butter and Nutella to your piping hot popcorn, wait for it to melt a bit, and then mix together to make sure it all gets coated.
And if you can’t make up your mind, you don’t have to! Create a popcorn bar the next time you host a movie night at your house. Make a bunch of plain popcorn (it’s cheaper just to buy the kernels and cook over your stove the old fashioned way), and put it out with a whole array of toppings, that way your guests can indulge themselves to their hearts’ content.
And so you can sample every different possibility out there…
Now it’s time to quiet your cell phones. The movie’s about to start.
